Reducing the carbon footprint of databases

A proof of concept delivered for DOCAPOSTE in four days
In just a few days, our PoC cut up to 20% of obsolete and irrelevant data while accelerating the delivery of their digital projects. “That represents a potential saving of nearly 2.94 million tonnes of CO2 a year, equivalent to the carbon footprint of 1.96 million transatlantic flights,” said Olivier Senot, Digital Innovation Officer at Docaposte.
Among other things, the PoC delivered:
- Discovery and control of the data estate across the value chain
- A potential reduction of up to 20% in ROT and poor-quality data
- Classification of data for GDPR, ESG and cybersecurity purposes
- Discovery and acceleration of digital, data and AI projects
- Management of progressively less energy-hungry storage tiers — calculating the digital footprint of minimised dark data and removing ROT — IT ROI
